COLLECTION OF RATES
The Oroua County Council met today.
The ti/asurer's report stated:—Total rates 'cult,standing, previous three years: Native, £837 12s 7d; European, £49(1 7s 4d; total, £1333 19s lid. Collected : European arrears, £323 4s 7d. Hates levied for current year, £45,505 10s Id; collected to date, £lBlB 7s 6d. Riding accounts: Expenditure on maintenance, western riding, £1144 8s 7d; presented for payment, £374 9s 7d; eastern riding, expended, £1195 9s 10d; presented for payment, £lB5 5s lOd. Bank balance, general account, dr., £447 11s (3d.
The county engineer (Mr 11. L. Harding) in the course of his import stated that the work of improving the road at the junction of Watershed and Ashhurst-Colyton Hoads was complete with the exception of portion of the ;batters. Some further improvements have been carried out on the road between this junction and Colyt.on. Repairs are being carried out to the bitumen surface between Taonui and Feilding. Work od Mangaone Hoad has been completed: this road has now been scarified, large stones and stumps removed, and reshaped and rolled its full length from Alakino Hoad to the Halcoinbo township, and has also received a re-surfacing with fine crushed gravel. Details of a plan for the reclamation of waste materials were received from the town clerk, Wellington. The Bunnythorpc School Committee asked for improvements to be made to the footpath iu front of the school. Mr W. N. Brewer advised that he hall resigned as a trustee of the Ashhurst Cemetery Board. The Bunnythorpc Hall Committee wrote thanking the council for work done.
