PAHIATUA.
Tlie official closing of the Pahiatua Badminton Club’s season took place on Tuesday evening when there was a large attendance at the Drill Hall. The president (Mr R. Mills) thanked members for their continued interest and support.
At the recent meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council, a circular letter from the Post and Telegraph Department asking householders to erect gate letterboxers was read. The letter stated that this was necessary owing to the many postal officers who had joined the military forces and the need for reducing the postman's walking time and for the conserving of departmental manpower. If a box for the reception of mail matter ivas not provided at the gate, correspondence wou’d be held at the Post Office to be taken delivery of there. Cr. G. H. Ilodd moved the following resolution: “That this Borough Council make a strong' protest to the Government against the new postal regulations withdrawing the delivery of mail to people who do not place a mail box in their gardens.” The subject, however, was held over till the next meeting. Mr J. do P. Mansen, of Pahiatua, is spending a few days in Wellington.
