CRIPPLED CHILDREN.

A handwork competition open to all crippled children through any branch of the society in New Zealand, sponsored by the Wanganui Crippled Children’s Society, attracted entries from all parts of the country. The judges (Mrs W. S. Rennie. Misses S. C. Ashmore and M. R. Wallace) said that the standard of work submitted was amazingly high, _ without taking into consideration the disabilities under which the children work. Awards of interest to this district are: —Handknitted hot-water bottle cover (under 121, Molly Morris (Feilding), equal, 3; handmade princess stylo petticoat, Olive McEwen (Palmerston North) 3; hand-knit-ted doll’s frock, 12 and under 15, Olive McEwen (Palmerston North) 2, Lorraine Houghton (Levin) 3; hand-made child’s frock, 15 and under 18, Ellen Trask (Palmerston North) f, Joyce Lankshear (Colyton) 3; open class, Bruce Carkcek (Levin)' commended. 1 : knitting, open class, Joyce Edwards (Eketahuna) 2, Olivo McEwen (Palmerston North) h.e. ; craft or toy-making, novelties,. Rita Eurse (Palmerston North) 3; cane, raffia and basket-weaving, Jack Rankin (Levin) 1, Jack Green (Palmerston North) 3, Bruce Oarkeck (Levin) two highly commended; .open class. Joyce Edwards (Eketahuna) 1, Gordon Wilkinson (Dannevirke) 2.
