WIN FOR McNEIL.
AMERICAN TENNIS SINGLES. . FOREST HILLS, Sept. 9. W. D. McNeil gave the national lawn tennis singles one of the most stirring finishes fin history when he beat the defending champion, R. L. Riggs, 4—6, 6—B, 6—3, 7 —5. After being hopelessly outplayed m the first two sets, McNeil started forcing the game. The crowd was breathless as he frequently broke through at the net. He proved irresistible, despite brilliant resistance by Riggs., Miss A. Marble easily overpowered Miss H. Jacobs, 6—2, 6—3, winning her third consecutive, national championship. She played a solid all-round game, lacking her usual brilliance, but she was very effective against Miss Jacobs’s precision.
