PRELUDE TO INVASION.
GERMAN DECLARATION. (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 10. The Times correspondent on the German frontier says almost three-quarters of the space of German newspapers are taken up by reports of descriptions of the air battle over England. Some proclaim that this constitutes the beginning of the decisive fight against England. Others declare the mightiest war machine of all ages is now running at top speed, but the official German spokesman, as usual, asserts that only a small part of Germany’s war potential is in action, while an immense reserve scattered' throughout the Reich, also along the Channel coasts, is ready lor use at a moment’s notice. A Zurich report says the Basler Nachrichten’s Berlin correspondent states that military circles in Berlin are emphatic in declaring that the air offensive is a prelude to invasion before the end of September. They added that disorganisation of the South of England was the first essential.
