LONGBURN.

(From 'Our Own Correspondent.) LONGBURN, Sept. 5. The winners of tho flag 500 organised by the Women’s Institute were Mr and Mrs A. Sanson, Mrs Shortland and lit T. Howland. 1 Committee members of the AVomen s Institute met at the residence of Mrs C. Nicoi, when those present were Mesdames Chamberlain, Fletcher, Stephenson, Nicoi. Rowland, Murray, Martin, and Misses Macfarlano and 13. Zurcher. It was decided to hold a meeting to pack soldiers’ Christmas parcels. Garments are being knitted by members for tho minesweepers. Thanks were accorded Mrs Nicoi for the use of her home. Mrs Chamberlain and Mr M. Noonan were the winners of the fortnightly euchre tournament held at tho school. Aggregate prizes were won by Mrs T. Cooksley and Mr M. Richardson. Miss S. Hansen, of Newbury, lias returned homo after visiting Miss R. Rowland. The friends of Mrs Taylor will be pleased to hear that she is out of pltal and is-staving with her daughter, Mrs Young. Mr J. Martin is spending Ins holidays at Rangiwaliia. Mrs J. V . Martin, of Karore Road, lier friends will regret to learn, lias received news of the death of her mother in England. Two teams from the Aokautero Miniature Rifle Club recently visited the local club. The visitors were defeated in the A grade game, but were superior in the B, grade. W. Bireli’s score of 100 (the possible) was the best. Scores are: Longburn A: E. Strong 99. J.' MoAvenue 96.
