DISPOSAL OF' MARGIN
Information as to the disposal of the difference in the New Zealand guaranteed ptice for cheese and the price which the New Zealand Government receives for this commodity on the English market is to bo sought by the dairy committee of thu Southern Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union, which carried a motion to this effect at a recent meeting. ' The chairman (Mr G. A. Caminock) raised the question of the newly-announccd price for chocso, and said that costs must be kept down, although a higher price was not as'kcd from England. Because production had been increased, wages had been raised by 5 per cent. Surely the farmer who increased production was entitled to the extra income. Mr G'amrnock also said, in dealing with the costs of the change from butter to cheese production, that he had been told by the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. P. Skoglund) that fanners would not bo required to take out heavy traffic licenses to carry their own or their neighbours’ milk to cheese factories. Petrol would bo saved if-,a farmer took his neighbour’s milk. Mr Ross moved that an explanation be required from the Minister for Finance (Hon. W. Nash) on what happened lo the difference in'the price for checso paid to tho Now Zealand larinor and that secured on tho English market!. Mr Edwards seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. It was decided to try to arrange a meeting of faotorv chairmen to seek uniformity in hours worked by employees in future.
