YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB.
A well attended meeting of the’ \V?°dvillc Young Farmers’ Uiub Was held last evening. Mr A. Compton-presiding. Arising from a circular from the Dominion organising secretary,, regarding the Plane Fund, the meeting considered ine alternatives of a Dofflihion contribution or contributing to a local effort. It was resolved that the club consider ways anti means of raising money for the purchase of a fighter plane; and that the -l ominion organising secretary be informed that the club is of the opinion that it would be advisable to- make a national, effort to raise a Young Farmers Clubs fund to provide such a plane. The chanman’s action in asking the llorpugh Council reserves committee to choose the variety of trees to be provided by the club for planting on the Recreation Ground was endorsed. On the motion of Curry, it was decided to thank the Woodviile County Council for its helpful offer of land and assistance in connection with the club’s tree-planting project, and express regret that later developments prevented the club from taking advantage ot the council’s helpful attitude. It. was decided to donate £1 from the procceds of the recent Papatawa dance to the l apa-tawa-Maharahara patriotic fund. The nomination of a speaker and subject for the next meeting were left in the hands ° chairman and secretary. A circular fion the Federation of-Young I armors Clubs set out a statement of policy as bcu g appropriate for the prosenT times. Attendance at all club meetings.: Acquisition ot knowledge at meetings and field days as an aid to increasing production;, render assistance to other bodies in the war ctfort; enrol younger members. Make contact with young men coming into country districts as farm workers and make them feel welcome by interesting them m club activities. All members should tatfcen one or more pitfs to' bacon weight, a a war effort. Cooperation with the Natioiial Council in collecting scrap material and the reclamation of waste, thus helping the war effort and helping to keep the wheels of industry moving. It was recommended that in competitions the judges be asked to l place animals according to their merits on the day, abd . not according to’the judges’ own prediction of the animal's probable development; and that the practice of asking a breeder, acting as judge, to adjudicate on his own stock, be avoided.
