MONTHLY MEETING. Mr J. Bovce presided at a. meeting of the Manawatu : Oroua Electric Power Board, yesterday. Other members present were: Messrs J. A. Nash, M. A. Eliott, J. Hodgens, M.P., W. McKay, J. H. Mason, P. G. Guy, W. Bickers, W. G. Shannon, N. Campbell, W. Hogg, and C. G. G. Dermer A circular letter was received from Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of ManPower, seeking co-operation in Is ew . Zealand’s war effort. | A letter in which the regulation of J the general level of wages ill accord-. ance with the cost of living, was pro-, posed, was received from the Power . Boards-lndustrial Union of Employers. The managing-secretary (Mr K. W. | Eglinton) reported,, that the total for May amounted to £262 5s bd; the total collections for the month j amounted to £557 10s lOd; and the j amount outstanding was £5147 4s lOd. , Sales of current lor May readings,! 1940, were £5795 19s 9d; sales for ] May , 1939, £sllO 9s 4d; an increase of £679 10s sd, The chief engineer (Mr W. A. Waters) in the course of his report stated that a supply was given to the following new consumers during the j month—Lighting and heating, 12 ; j ranges 11; water heaters, 15; motors; for milking, 2; other motors, 8; _in*; dustrial motors, 3; additions _to existing installations, 36; total 87. Owing to the growth of load, and to maintain j the voltage, a new 11,000-volt trails-1 former was erected on the StanwayHalcombe Boad. With the growth of load in the Manawatu County, and the fact that ' the Oliakea Air Station was now taking approximately 600 kilo : watts of load, provision, for carrying these increased loads in this county, particularly in an emergency, had become imperative. The work of flood-; lighting the Mt. Stewart memorial had j been completed. The engineer also cle- j tailed the circumstances relating to | the interruption to supply which occur- j red on Saturday, June 1, when one of j the Public Works Department’s trails- j formers broke down. . I The chief engineer and his! staff were congratulated on the { measures they took when the transformer broke down. The board expressed appreciation, also, of the assistance given from many directions in reducing the load during the critical period of short supply of power. Leave of absence was granted Messrs J. W. Clevely and J. W. Reynolds, members of the board’s staff, in view of their having joined up for active service.
The estimates for the current year were adopted these showing ail estimated income of £129,950 and estimated outgoings of £123,371, the estimated surplus being £6579. ■
