THE RED MENACE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —-Within the past twelve months the worst Fifth Columnists in the British Empire have bombarded the public with demands that England should wipe Hitler from the face of the earth. Mr Chamberlain was derided for his inaction and protest meetings held to urge him on. Now, strangely enough, when the Empire has marched against Hitler’s tyranny, these same people cry peace! Peace 1 Is it because Stalin has joined forces with that other maniac of Europe? The mighty, all-powerful U.S.S.R. (which was always warning the Fascist “dogs” to watch out! and then took three months to beat tiny Finland to its knees) plunged Spain into a murderous civil war, has caused and is causing strife in China and the Baltic, and we of the British Empire were threatened and urged to fight on the side of the Reds—Democracy, so called. Perhaps Mr Chamberlain and others were in the know as to the true facts more than was the public. However it is strange' that the call for peace should come now that we are doing what we were told to do some several months ago. These treacherous Russians are more of a danger in the Empire than are spies who at best smuggle .out tiny scraps of “news.” Perhaps the minds of these Reds are not free,, but take their orders from the Kremlin.—l am, etc., JUSTICE. Palmerston North, 10 6-40.
