' Mr G, A. Duncan (Director of Marketing), has returned to Wellington from Australia. Major-General J. E. Duigan, (Chief of the General Staff), is suffering from a slight attack of influenza and will be confined to. his home for some days. Advice was received in Wellington yesterday that Pilot-Officer Robert Clifford Douglas McKenzie is reported missing. His next of kin is Mr S. J. Moore, of Fendalton, Christchurch. Mr J. S. Winton, of Palmerston North, who has been in hospital for some time past has sufficiently recovered, his friends will be pleased to learn, to be able to return to liis home, where he is convalescing.
The death occurred in Carterton on Saturday of Mr Ernest Batchelor,, at the age of 76 years. Mr Batchelor was born in Greymoutli, where he was well known in athletic and sporting circles. He leaves a widow, a daughter, Mrs Alice Thorp, or Marton, and a son, Mr Cyril Batchelor, of Carrington.
Major C. W. A. Kimbell, F.R.C.S., M.C.0.G., formerly of Lower Hutt, is reported missing and is believed to be a prisoner of war. Major Kimbell, who is a son of the late Mr A. N. Kimbell, Under-Secretary for Public Works, has been serving in France with the R.A.M.C., and was in the operations at Dunkirk. -
The death occurred in Wellington yesterday of Mrs Jane Small PrainAmbler, for more than 50 years a •resident of Levin. Born in Lanesfield, Victoria, 83 years ago, she came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr and Mrs Alexander Prain, who settled in Dunedin in the early seventies. In 1888 she was married in Oamaru to Mr S. Ambler, who predeceased her some 25 years ago. She leaves two sons, Mr iv. S. Brain-Ambler, Pahautanui, and Mr T. A. Prain-Ambler, Wellington, both of whom served in the last war, and three daughters, Mrs C. S. Parson, Wellington, Mrs Norman Horrobin, Whangarei, and Mrs F. A. Thompson, Lower Hutt.
Mr W. J. G. Wyllie, accountant on the Palmerston North staff of the National Bank of New Zealand, who has been appointed manager of the Dargaville branch of the bank, left ilast —. evening for Dargaville, accompanied by Mrs Wyllie. Before leaving he was met by members of the staff of the Palmerston North branch and presented with a dinner set. The manager (Mr J. A. West) wished him all success in his new sphere and mentioned that he himself had been manager at Dargaville before coming to Palmerston North. Mr J. Ross, of Wellington, who succeeds Mr Wyllie at Palmerston North, .was welcomed by Mr West. i /The medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, Dr. J. W. Craven, has received instructions from the War Office, London, to report overseas Tor service with the Royal Army Medical Corps. Dr. Craven, who has the rank of lieutenant-colonel, expects to leave New Zealand early next month. He has been superintehent at the Hospital since 1932, and lias a ..distinguished Great War record. With the rank of captain he went to France in April, 1915, with the Ist Northumbria Field Ambulance, commanding the field ambulance in the latter stages of the war. He returned from active service in June, 1919, as lieutenant-colonel.' Wlienj lie came to New Zealand in 1926 ho was transferred to the Reserve of the Royal Army Medical Corps. Dr. Craven was ' awarded the Military Cross and the Croix de Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
