S.P.C.A.
At the monthly meeting of the Feihling branch of the S.P.C.A. Mrs V. Morphy presided. Messrs Coleman and Dee reported that they had attended the annual meeting of the HalcombeMakino calf pool and had placed the vic'ws of the branch before members. It was explained that the pool committee had arranged for the disposal of its calves with a recommendation to the agent handling the matter that the calves be killed in Feilding it possible. A letter was received from the Feilding Chamber of Commerce sympathising with the S.P.C.A. ill its aims and suggesting that proceedings bo taken in every case notified ot avoidable cruelty. The Manawatu County Council advised that no action had been taken in regard to a suggestion that a stock drinking trough be erected on .Sandon Road. The S.P.C.A., it was stated, could not stand the full cost of the trough, £7O, and endeavours are being made to secure assistance. Tile inspector (Mr Lee) reported favourably on conditions at the sumyards, holding paddocks and auction marts. Subscriptions were acknowledged from Mrs Brandt and Messrs R. G. Croudis and C. B. McClure.
