AMERICAN TAXATION.
WASHINGTON, June 9. The House of Representatives’ Ways and Means Committee has voted a 1,004,000,000-dollar supplementary tax Bill to finance one-fifth 1 of the extra' , expenditures. President Roosevelt lias proposed legislation- making, provision for excess profits taxes to prevent “war mililonaire3.” The President’s secretary (Mr Early) said the 5,000,00,000 dollars President Roosevelt had already' asked from Congressw as all he expected to ask for “this time.” Mr Wilkie said the nation’s overwhelming sentiment for granting "all possible aid short of war to the Allies precluded the possibility of the Republicans adopting an isolationist plank at their national convention.
