VIOLENT ASSAULT
GREAT GERMAN PUSH. POSITION REMAINS GRAVE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) Received June 10, 11.5 a.m. RUGBY, June 9. The latest information reaching London of the military position on the French front relates to the situation as it had developed this morning. It appears that, although the attack along the front from the sea to the Argonnes' was intense, especially violent onslaughts had been made south of Amiens and on the plateau south of Soissons. In the Amiens sector the intensity of the attack, in spite of the heavy losses inflicted an the enemy, caused a withdrawal of the Allied lines towards the south of Breteuil. In the Soissons area the enemy is said to be using ten to 15 divisions and in the early morning developed a. violent assault in the Tardenois district. This was preceded by a heavy bombardment. On the remainder of the front the enemy does not seem to .have made any real progrees. The situation thus disclosed can only be regarded as grave, and it is said to be obvious that the enemy is throwing immense resources into the battle.
