APPEAL TO SCHOOL CHILDREN.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —In connection with the work being carried out to assist refugees, the committee have found it most disheartening to have to refuse requests from hundreds of school children for wool owing to the limited supplies coming from Wellington. However, during the depression the school children were responsible for the making of a large number of quilts by reason of the fact that they supplied a quantity of peggy squares, and as every home is bound, to have spare pieces of wool, what more fitting comfort could our school children give to the refugees in England than peggy square quilt 6, narticularly as They will soon be entering upon the winter season ? Any school children who are prepared to make peggy squares, would they please leave them when made with Mrs M. Manning, care Patriotic Shop, Fitzherbert Avenue. I would also like to take thi6 opportunity of appealing for any woollen garments not being used in -which the wool could be unwound and re-u6ed; also for any odd pieces of wool which could be issued to the school children to help them play their part and give them the satisfaction of assisting in the work of helping the refugees in England. The parcels of woollen garments or odd pieces of wool can be left at the Patriotic Shop, or ring Mrs M. Manning, ’phone No. 5680. —Yours, etc., A. E. MANSFORD, Mayor. 10-6-40.
