APITI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A PITI, June 10. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held on Friday, at the Community Centre, Feilding. In spite, of transport difficulties, there was a fair attendance, and the girls of the Apiti District High School were the guests of the institute. A prayer for peace was read. A letter was received from 'the Apiti R.S.A. thanking members for providing afternoon tea for the visitors after the Anzar Hay service. The financial statement of the dance presented by the treasurer (Mrs W. Hogan) showed a satisfactory position and the president (Mrs C. M. Stanley) thanked members for their wonderful wholehearted co-operation in that effort. A letter from Mrs A. W. Benseman (who had .been appointed conference delegate) was read, stating her inability to attend the conference. Conference matters were discussed, and it was decided to leave over the matter of appointing another delegate in the meantime. The programme for July is to be an Irish afternoon, arranged by four of the Main Road members. Competitions are to be: The heaviest potato, crochet (2 classes), a piece of exhibition work (not necessarily the member’s work) and a piece of crochet, members’ own work, also best bloom. It was decided that at the next meeting nil members should bring wearable garments, suitable for making up into a parcel for refugees. Nine soldiers’ parcels were handed in, with two more to come. Donations towards soldiers’ parcels were acknowledged by Mrs W. Duncan. A sum towards the Red Cross Appeal is to be handed to the local secretary. At the conclusion of the business, Mr Somerset, of the Community Centre, gave a most interesting address on “Child Psychology.” Visitors were present from Rangiwahia and Linton. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Somerset, and the hope expressed that Apiti members would again be able to hold a meeting at the Community Centre. R.S.A. REUNION.
The annual, reunion of the local R.S.A. was held on Friday evening when there was an attendance of some fifty members and visit ore. Mr W. McKenzie was in the chair and extended a warm welcome to nil. The loyal toast/was proposed by the president. “Absent . Comrades” was in the hands of Mr S. F Morris; “Requiem” was sung by Mr C. M. Stanley and Mr T. Osborne played the Last Post, followed by. Reveille. “The New Zealand R.S.A:” was entrusted to Mr W. J. Osborne and replied to by Mr G. A.- Wenborn, of Rongotea; “Kindred Associations” was proposed by Mr C. M, Stanley and replied to by Mr E. Signal; “The Visitors” was in the charge of Mr A. . Dobson, and Messrs Wickes (Woodvillo), W. A. Churchill (Rongotea) and Burgess (Halcombe),. Revs. F. E. Fleury, L. J. Ilodson and J. C. Ashworth all replied. “The Entertainers” was proposed by Mr H. G. Mapson and replied to by Messrs C. Bell and J. Hansen. Interspersed throughout the programme were pleasing items by Alessrs C. Bell (xylophone), W. A. Churchill, S. F. -Morris, C. M. Stanley, A. G. Mapson and J. Hansen (vocal items). Mr C. Bell was accompanist.
