ATHLETIC TROPHIES.
The Woodville Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club held a social and dance in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday for tho purpose of presenting trophies and points prizes won during tho past season. ihe president (Mr U. J. Harding), before presenting the trophies,, said the club had experienced a successful season and in holding tabloid meetings fortnightly, ra addition to tho annual sports gathering, had fulfilled its object—that of fostering sport in this district. He congratulated the winners on the success and the hne spirit shown, pointing out that they had taken part in athletics purely for sports sake, and for the healthy recreation and physical benefit they derived from it. The trophies and points prizes were the only tangible recognition of their efforts that they received during The year. In handing the Nash Cup to M. Vowell, the winner of the senior cycling section, Mr Harding mentioned that this promising rider had achieved tho remarkable performance of securing fwo firsts and a second in each of the three concluding sports meetings. Trophies were presented as follow :-McKinlay Cup (senior athletics), P. Miller; Nash Cup (senior cycling). M. Vowell; junior athletics trophy, V Walker, junior cycling trophy, R. Fulton Trophies will be presented as opportunity offers to the following winners in the 'school children’s sections: W. Scott (boys’ athletics), Iris Rock (girls athletics) and W. Smith (boys’ cycling). The M.C. at the dance was Mr E. Boale. Mr J. Sullivan was accorded a vote of thanks for having arranged mnsic .or dancing.
