SIR THOMAS BEECHAM.
BRIEF VISIT PAID. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 7. A colourful figure in British music, and a conductor of world-wide repute, Sir Thomas Beecham arrived to-day and leaves to-morrow for Australia, where he will give concerts and radio talks. It is interesting to recall that, from time to time, Sir Thomas has startled musical circles by his fierce denunciation of radio music, stating on one occasion: “The 8.8. C. relays the biggest nonsense to be heard in music.” , He told an interviewer to-day that the war had caused&a considerable disorganisation in music in England, although the regular societies were holding concerts in London, Liverpool and Birmingham. The war also struck a serious blow at the opera.
