EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” JUNE 7, 1910. An Imperial Conference and International' Aviation Carnival was to be held at Blackpool on July 28. The sum of £4OOO in prizes had been donated by the London Daily Mail. Since the appointment of an official Labour candidate for the Auckland East seat, ' rendered vacant by the death of Mr F. E. Baume, there had been much dissatisfaction among the party’s supporters. A serious fall of earth in the Miramar cutting had occurred, two men being buried. After five hours of strenuous work one was extricated with a badly broken leg. A later message stated that the other man had been found killed. Deer were becoming troublesome in the Wairarapa and were causing untold damage to crops.
