Tlie New Zealand Centennial Organisation sot tip bv authority of and with the assistance of the' Government, is now conducting musical festivals in all *°“? centres of Now Zealand, and as part ot the national musical celebrations contests for choirs and string quartettes arc being organised. Prizes of £125, £SO and £25 aro offered in the choir competition, open to all choirs, including church choirs, but not exceeding 40 voices. In the str lss quartettes’ section prizes of £SO and AM are offered. Eliminating competitions will be held between July 26 and* 31, 1040, and entries close on Jnly 1. Except for provincial semi-finalist cnoirs. there ( will bo no travelling necessary, as competitors will be judged as far as is practicable m their own towns.
