RURAL RAKINGS. Stock Killing Record. The killing season for stock in Hawke’s Bay is nearing its close at the works at Tomoana and AA'hakatu, and it is evident that new records will have been established. All previous season’s totals for mutton and lamb killings have been surpassed, and for sofne time nearly 3000 head, of cattle have been passing through the works each week. Rabbits at Molesworth. Between 600 and 700 cattle arc now running 'on the Molesworth station, which was closed down on tho property reverting, to the Crown some years ago." The Minister for Lands (Hon. F. Langstone) said in an interview that more than 70,000 rabbits had been cleared in three months. In an effort to renew the pastures depleted by overstocking rabbits and inefficient farming in the past, experiments had been carried out with crested wheat grass. Fewer . Cows Tested. Disappointment is expressed in the annual report of tho South Island Dairy Association at the poor response by dairy farmers to the herd improvement plan instituted by - the Dairy Beard. It is estimated that 20,000 fewer cows are being tested tliis season than last. The preceding year showed a drop of 31,000. The total number tested under the scheme in 1939-40 was estimated at 220,000.
