LINK OF ROTARY.
SWEDEN AND THE DOMINION.,
Mention was made, at. the weekly meeting of the Palmerston North Rotary Club, on Monday, of Lulea, a town in Northern Sweden which, it was stated in the cable news in the “Mana--watu Standard” on Saturday night, was now free of ice and would he used as a shipping port for iron ore to go to Germany. The president of the club (Mr J. A. Grant) read a report by Mr .H. B. Reid, on behalf of the -club's international service committee, the report stating that contact was made with the Eulea Rotary Club iri 3938, when a letter was written to that club at the suggestion of Rotary International. In this letter: which was of an informative ‘nature about Palmerston North and the district, it was pointed out that whereas the Lulea Rotary Club could claim to be the most northerly in the world, a New Zealand club (Invercargill) could claim to be the most southerly. The population, of Lulea is about 14,000, and its recent development Is intimately connected with iron ore export In 1936 over 2,670.000 tons of iron' ore were handled through the port while in the neighbouring countryside there is also considerable activity in the timber pulp mills.
