AMERICAN ’PLANES.
POWERFUL ENGINES. The Hudson bombers now being used by tlie Allied Forces in the war, are made by the Lockheed Company of America, but are a larger and faster model compared with the Lockheed ’planes which are familiar to New Zealanders. According to an American aviation magazine there were 250 of these bombers completed and awaiting delivery last February. According to the same source of information, the latest American singleseat fighter, known as the “flying bullet,” which has a top speed of 412 miles per hour, was also in production, and France had ordered 100 of them. Some had already been delivered. The machines have a cruising range of over 1400 miles, and carry enough ammunition to serve the machine-guns for one minute. The engine develops 1350 horse-power for the take-off , this being a one-minute rating.
