LICENSING COMMITTEE.

MANAWATU ELECTORATE. Tlie annual meeting of the Manawatti. Licensing Committee was held in the Magistrate’s Court at Feilding yesterday. Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., presided and associated with him were ‘ Messrs W. G. Booth, P.G. Guy, G. Bartholomew-, G. Goodbehere and -T. Watson. Applications for publicans’ licenses were granted as follow: I. Mclntyre (Endymion Hotel,’Awahuri), A. C. Boswell (Halcombe Hotel), Sydney Smith (Apiti Hotel). The following renewals were granted: G. P. Bruce (Commercial Hotel, Ashhurst), H. P. Standing (Manchester Hotel, Feilding), H. Dooly (Denbigh Hotel, Feilding), R. Bevan (Empire Hotel, Feilding), G. Grove (Flasonic Hotel, Aslihurst), N. T. K. Cruden (Junction Hotel, Longburn), C. J. O’Connell (Junction Hotel, Sanson), A. J. Galpin j (Royal Hotel, Bunnythorpe), S. S. Mc-

Gregor (Feilding Hotel). Messrs Bn.rraud and Abraham, Ltd., were granted a wholesale license in respect of their premises in Feilding. Regarding the Feilding hotel, Sergeant Turner 6tated that there had been a big improvement in the conduct of the premises, and in view- of the war he would not press for the building to be painted. The committee . stated it was pleased with the improvement and hoped it would be continued. Regarding the Manchester Hotel, it was pointed out that the foundations were in a bad state and , the building would have to be re- ‘ built later. It was stated that an ini- [ provement was expected in the con- . duct of the Masonic Hotel, Ashhurst, j in the future, it being noted by the . committee that there had been three ; convictions for breaches in the 1 past three years. Regarding the ■ Awahuri Hotel, Fir J. Graham, agent, stated that the water i supply system, reported to be in a ; bad states would be attended to with* , out delay. Sergeant Turner had no objection to the renewal, but mentioned that the matter of rebuilding , the hotel would have to be eonsidi ered later. '
