PATRIOTIC FUND.
KNITTING COMMITTEE MEETS. At a meeting of the knitting section of the Women’s Patriotic Committee, yesterday, the convener (Mrs K. S. Manning) was voted to the chair. In association with her was the Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Mansford), chairman of the Patriotic Women’s Committee, and Mrs L. R. Evans, junr., acted as secretary. Mrs Manning reported that wool had been given out for 100 pairs of mittens, in response to the Mayoress’s request. She also read details for the correct making of liussifs. It was reported that gifts of socks that had been made to the committee were reserved to present to men on service from this district, ’and it was resolved to pack and send forward immediately the hussifs which had been sent in. Wool was distributed for balaclavas, scarves, etc., to be completed by the end of June, members being asked to leave their work at the patriotic shop. A small committee was set up, consisting of Mesdames M. Mclntosh, F. Jackson, L. R. Evans, A. F. Jackson and Kennedy, to assist the convener., Mrs Mansford expressed her pleasure and that of Mrs Manning at the large attendance, remarking that the wool distribution was a somewhat difficult question owing to the wide scattering of knitters.
