The rainfall recorded at . the Ashhurst School in Alay, was 4.66 m, compared with 1.41 in, inNMay, 1939, and 3.05 in in Alav, 1938. t >- At a meeting of the management committee'of the Defence Rifle Club. Mr A\ 7 . G. Rom ley presided. 1 The secretary reported that the year’s nominal roll showed 56 attested members and six honorary members, including one lady, and that 49 members were financial with at least a further five subscriptions duo. The year’s' musketry returns were highly satisfactory. A report on the season’s handicap competitions was made by- the secretary. The committee considered it very pleasing to \sec new winners of these trophies. It was decided that the club service championship for the Alcwett Cup be fired this week, and also the service shoot . for Afr J. B. Searle’s trophy. Conditions for the championship were fixed. Thero will lie a B grade aggregate for Air C. W. Turner’s trophy. The meeting voted £2 2s to the local Patriotic Committee for the Red Cross Appeal. Oil Saturday the local treasurer reported that the Ashhurst fund, collected to date for the Red Cross and St. John Appeal had just about reached the £4OO mark, which is a splendid effort for the Ashhurst district. Work is progressing steadily with the alterations <o the roadway in 'Alulgrave Terrace, which is being widened as it is the Ashhurst end of the now WoodvilleAshhurst Road over the Ruabinc Ranges. The bridge contractors, too, are busy on the preparation work for the new bridge.
