Allsop opened the door of a wardrobe while executing a search warrant at Normanby yesterday he discovered a soldier, Richard John Sowerby, aged 35, who according to his own statements should have been overseas with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. . Sowerby, , who appeared before Justices of the Peace in the Hawera Court to-day, .pleaded guilty’ to breaking and entering a shop at Normanby oil May 18 and stealing goods valued at £2'l3s Id. He was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. Sowerby, according to Detective Allsop, was in uniform when arrested. Sowerby made a statement to the police in which lie said lib was deserting and should have left New Zealand.
