SICK AND WOUNDED FUND.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—We read with interest and pride the ever 'mounting lists in response to the appeal for the sick and wounded fund. The organised efforts of the city and Kairanga county, and now the Manawatu county, and other districts are a credit to the people concerned. As a resident of the Horowhenua county I ■ would like to ask what is being done in this county to meet their share of the funds which are a real necessity to the comfort of the men who are fighting for us? Stalls and entertainments are all very well as a helping hand, but everyone will agree that the best way to raise a creditable sum is by a properly organised house to house canvass. This is the second appeal for funds for patriotic purposes, and, as far as I am aware, no canvassing has been done in this county for either appeal. Where are the leaders of our local organisations? Do they need an invasion of German parachutists to awaken their patriotism?—l am, etc., A WOMAN. Tokomaru, 1-6-40.
