EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” JUNE 3, 1910. The vital statistics for Palmerston North were: Deaths 26, births 37, marriages 13. Mr Fairlie’s colt Lemberg had won the English Derby from Green Back. The time, 2.35 l-osec, was a record. Permission had been granted for the Johnson-Jefferies boding match. A report from Shanghai stated that officials feared the assassination of the Emperor through' growing animosity' against the Manchu regime. This animosity was caused by the rise in price of rice and the depreciation of the value of the copper “cash.”
