The French Government has called up tlie last 25 per cent, of the recruits who became liable for service in 1939, also the first 25 per cent, liable this year. Two decrees to speed up aircraft production establish priority for aircraft contracts and authorise punitive measures for failure of duty on the part of the directors and men. A Malta message says the police have interned Dr. Enrico Mizzi, Leader of the pro-Italian section of tlie Nationalist Party in tlie Council of Government. Queen Elizabeth acted as godmother when Princess Irene, youngest daughter ,of Princess Juliana of the Netherlands, was christened at Buckingham Palace. The Queen was assisted bv representatives of the Dutch Army, the Dutch East Indian Army, and the Royal Dutch Navy, which were made I godfathers. The ceremony, conducted in English, was followed by a Dutch service.—British Official "Wireless. The King received General Sir Edmund Ironside at Buckingham Palace on his appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Home Forces.—British Official "Wireless. A decree in the first Dutch Official Gazette printed in England authorises the Government to assume the- financial and property rights belonging to individuals and institutions established in the Netherlands. It is impossible for Germans to appropriate Dutch property outside the occupied territory. It is stated from Ottawa that , a member of the Government Party, (Mr G. Ross), in the House of Commons, pointed out that the Opnosition was the weakest in Canadian history, and asserted that the Conservatives were guilty of . “treason” in their repeated demands'that the Prime Minister (Mr Mackenzie King) should resign. The Air. Minister (Mr C. G. Power) said that if the Minister of Justice (Mr Lapointe) fully discharged His duties he would “intern” the Fifth Column on the other side of tlie House.
