BURSTING GRANARIES.
' STORES IN BRITAIN. granaries are glutted' with Australian wheat as tlie result of efforts to increase reserve stocks of grain. The Daily Telegraph reports that heavy importation of Australian wheat lias overflowed granaries and congested docks. , Shiploads of the Australian Deceniber and January crop have been arriving almost daily. Delivery has begun of 1,650,000 tons purchased under ' the agreement with the AustmliaruAVlieat Board. ■ Every delay, and tho necessity for using cold stores to relieve pressure on the new ' silos, has increased the risk of weevil infestation which was responsible for annual damage before the war of from £5,000,000 to £10,000,000 to grain and tobacco throughout Britain. Methods of combating difficulties include increased scientific control and. the use of poor quality European wheat for flour or cattle food to make room for high-grade Empire grain.
