ADDRESS TO TEACHERS. Keen interest was taken in an address delivered by Mr P. A. .Smithells, Superintendent of Physical Education, to members iof the Manawatu branch of the New Zealand Educational institute in the Y.W.C.A. building. Mr Smithells explained the new syllabus of physical education to over 100 teachers. The t-alk was illus-trated-'with sound films showing work in various types of schools in England. Some of the films depicted a large class of 11-year-old. girls working in a big city’’ school, country children at their studies _ and modern methods of teaching games. In England, on account of the shortage of space in schools and the large influx of pupils since the Great, War, teachers had evolved a technique of teaching games so that all children could benefit, said Mr Smithells."The scheme had been conspicuously ■ successful. The.- technique consisted of using minor games and practices to build up basic skill in the national games. The audience was very much impressed with the standard of ball handling shown in the -films. Many questions were answered by Mr Smithells. .
