VALEDICTORY.
. A £ most enjoyable function was held at the Hokowhitu Bowling Club’s pavilion: on Wednesday, when a hundred residents and ex-pupils met to 6ay farewell to Mr C. Haydon, who lias been a teacher at rite Hokowhitu School since it was opened 16 years ago. Mr W. Woodrooie (chairman of the first School Committee) presided and spoke of the affection and respect in which Mr Haydon was held bv parents, ex-pupils and present pupils. Mr G. D. Rattle (a former chairman), Mr H. M. Cox (present chairman) and Mr McLean (late headmaster) also spoke after which Mr Woodroofe presented to Kir Haydon a wallet of_ notes from the residents and . ex-pupils, and Mr Edmonds presented Mr Haydon with a. suitcase from the ex-pupils. Mr Haydon feelingly responded, after which supper was served by the ladies’ committee. Items were given by Misses W. Cox, S. Melville and N. Ayson, and competitions were in the hands of Mrs W. 'Woodroofe. Dancing wa6 indulged in until midnight, Mr W. Woodroofe proving an efficient M.C.
