'From Our Own Correspondent.) CARNARVON, May 16. Mrs Gibbons presided at the Women’s Institute meeting on Tuesday. Mrs Davison was welcomed as a visitor. Invitations were received from Glen Oroua and Rongotea Institutes to their birthday gatherings. It was decided not to enter a' class in the Manawatu Show. Mr Clare was thanked for a donation to the funds. Mrs Warren gave a comprehensive report on the council meeting held at Foxton. Mrs Davison judged the competitions, which resulted: Bunch of chrysanthemums, Miss Clare 1; bloom, Mrs Fieldhouse 1, Miss Clare 2 .Mrs Will 3. 'The trading stall added a substantial sum to the emergency fund. Mrs G. R. McKenzie gave a very interesting and instructive talk on social diseases. Afternoon tea was served by Mosdames _ Will, Sandercock and Maxwell. Mrs Gibbons was presented with the points prize for last year. The following is the programme for June: Best bloom; 60eial ; Mrs Will, travel talk; hostesses, Mesdames Luxford, Warren and Miss Will. Three young men well known in this district are entering camp on Friday m Messrs J. Webby, N. Grossart and B. Price. The Ping Pong Club was well attended on Tuesday, over 20 players talcing - part. It is hoped to shortly try conclusions with’ some of the neighbouring clubs. Rev. Mr Crockett, of Bulls, brought a very fine moving picture of missionary work in China, India and New Hebrides to the hall on Wednesday.
Miss Beardmore, of Tabaka, has been the: guest of Mr and Miss Clare. Mr Gibbons, senr.. is visiting Mr J. Gibbons. Miss Hansen, of Wellington, paid a visit to her sister, Mrs Procter, recently. Miss Rockel, of Wanganui, wlio was visiting Mrs Scott left on Tuesday for Waitarere.
