MORE STATE HOUSES.

BLOCK OF SIXTEEN. BUILDINGS FOR TERRACE END. A further 16 State houses are to be erected in Palmerston North, comprising the second largest block of such dwellings in the city. The new houses will be erected in James and Millar Streets, Terrace End, between Linibriek Street and the point where Napier Road diverges from Main Street. The Housing Construction Department; has called tenders for the erection of the houses. Thirteen of the houses will be situated in James Street, on both sides. A double unit house will be included in this block, and the three bouses in James Street will also include a double unit. The bouses will be on the lines of those already erected in the city. The completion of the main block' of houses at West End will take a month or two yet. Building work is still being done on a few of-the bouses, but all are nearing completion. Roading work has also yet to be finished and the block tidied up. There will be no further room foi building tnere. Good progress is being, made on houses started more recently, these comprising a block of four in Te Awe Awe Street and four in Weston Avenue.
