HANDS STRENGTHENED. NEW CABINET POSTS. PEER’S' RESPONSIBILITY. (United Press, Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless’:) Received May 16, 9.57 a.nx. RUGBY, May 15. The general significance of Labour’s, co-operation in Mr Churchill’s Administration as contributing to the stabilisation of the industrial war effort is emphasised in the Press.

The Times says: “The Labour leaders will know the necessity for creating an industrial labour force equal to the increasing demands of the three Fighting •Services, and for simultaneously raising the Fighting Services to the necessary strength in numbers and the highest efficiency in arms and equipment. The Army, Navy, and Air Force have their bases in the workshops. The lives of our men and victory itself are in large measure in the hands of the men and women in the workshops. A positive constructive effort is needed ior national unity in the workshop. “The full measures to he adopted must leave no doubt that for the duration of the war profit-making is no longer the mainspring of business, but is superseded by public service.” The appointment of Lord Beaverbrook to the new Ministry of Aircraft Production receives widespread approval. The Daily Telegraph says: “There could hardly be a better choice. Lord Beaver brook’s great ability, originality, and resourcefulness warrant the confidence that he will succeed in a post where success'can do much .to shorten the war.”

The News-Chronicle says: “Lord Beaverbrook has a capacity for ruthlessness and rapid decision such as few men possess.” The Yorkshire Post says many hopes will centre now in Lord Beaverbrook as the wicldcr of an impetuous driving force.
