U-SHAPED FRONT.
FORMED BY GERMANS. GENERAL GAMELIN’S TACTICS. LONDON, May 15. Pouring in through the breaks in Belgium’s advanced defences, tlie Germans have apparently established an extensive U-shaped front between tlie Albert Canal and Longwy 1 rcnch military commentators say that tnc position is serious, hut not alarming. The French G eneral Sta ff foresaw tliathis line of attack would reveal tlie strategy when the moment was op- . P °The ie passage of the British and French Armies to Belgium continues steadilv. There seems no reason why General Gamelin should depart from orthodox tactics, which mean that tlie succouring forces would not be rushing up to intermingle with the defenders lnit would be establishing support positions sending out advance parties and assisting the rearguard action till tlie defenders can retire to the main positions which their helpers had created. The Havas Agency’s correspondent with the Belgian army says that the Allied defences along the Meuse and Sambre Rivers are very strongly organised and should withstand the terrific German onslaught toward Antwerp, Louvain and Charleroi., The Germans are reported to have violently bombed Antwerp.. , A French Defence Ministry communique orders all soldiers released for farming work to rejoin their units immediately. The French morning communique says that an enemy tank- attack occurred in the region of Gcmblqux, central Belgium, yesterday evening. “We counter-attacked and hurled back the enemv, who increased the pressure on the Meuse from Namur to the Longwy region. The battle is continuin". French aviation and tlie R.A.F/, acting in complete co-opera ion, continue to intervene most vigorously. There was nothing of importance on the rest of the front.”
