RUGBY FOOTBALL
MANAWATU UNION. The Manawatu Rugby Union’s management committee met on Tuesday', when those present were Messrs K. W. Eglinton, P. Skoglund, E. Clevely, J. Eagle, R. Gillespie, E. G. W. 'Schwarz, F. E. Sherwood, W. Glecson, B. Palmer, J. R. Tlardie and J. G. Eliott. In the absence of Mr A- M. Ongley, Mr Eglinton was appointed chairman. It was reported that it was unlikely that the gymnasium would be available until after tho Winter Show, the accommodation having been required for military purposes. Various other unions wrote confirming arrangements made as follow for representative matches: v. Hawke’s Bay, at Palmerston North, August 31; v. Wanganui, at Wanganui, July 13; v. Taranaki, in Manawatu Union’s territory, August 10; v. Wanganui, at Palmerston North, on June io. As the outcome of special representations to the Wellington Rugby Union, the latter advised that as a special match their representative team would play at Palmerston North on the King’s Birthday holiday (June 3), the Manawatu Union to meet ail expenses.—The letter is to be acknowledged with the understanding that the team will travel by motor-bus. Negotiations are in train for a curtainraiser to be played between the Manawatu and Wanganui juniors.' Following the receipt of a letter from Mr W. G. Thurston as to petty thieving .in the dressing rooms below the main stand at the Showgrounds, last Saturday, it was decided to post an official at the entrance; only players and officials will be allowed to enter. A motion of condolence was carried with the relatives of the )a(o Mr J. E. Wingate, of Pohangina Valley, a former representative plaver. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY.
