(From Our Own Correspondent.) lIALCOMBE, May 15. Despite very inclement weather there was an excellent attendance at the May meeting of the Women’s Institute. Mrs R. Williams presided. The “sunshine” members for the coming month will be Mesdames L. Davies and A. Ward and hostesses for next month will bo Mesdames L, Davies, M. James and A. McNac. All who had helped to make the institute birthday a success were thanked, 1 especially those who had given dona-, tions. Invitations to attend the Marton ■Junction and Waituna West Institutes’ birthdays were received. A full and interesting report of the Oroua Group meeting was given by the'delegate, Mrs A. M.. Ashworth who urged, members to attend these meetings whenever possible. Mrs P. Simpson, of Makino. spoke ,on garden circles, and it was. decided to form one. Mrs M. Port, of Awahuri, gave-an interesting demonstration on crayon pictures. The hostesses were Mesdames L. Fergusson, N. Ashworth, J. Curtis and Miss O. Fergusson. The competitions, resulted : Blooms, Miss 0. Fergusson 1, Miss Elsie Fergusson 2, Mrs L. Fergusson 3; apple pie, Miss O. Fergusson 1, Miss Edna Fergusson 2, Mrs I. Brett 3. Next month’s competitions are: Three carrots, and knitted bed socks. Mrs L. Miller is visiting Wellington. Mr H. Henderson, of Christchurch, and Mrs B. Thomas, of Hawera, have been the guests of Mr and Mrs \N. Ashworth, Mt." Biggs. Miss G. Fergusson, of Otago University, is spending a holiday with her .parents, Mr and Mrs J, L. Fergussqp, of Tokorangi. Mbs . G. O’Brien, of Hawera, and Miss K. O'Donnell, of Palmerston North, are visiting Mrs N.. Ashworth. Miss . B. Bilton, of Pukerua Bay.' is visiting Halcopibe. The draw for next week’s ladies’ golf competition, is: —Miss .0. Fergusson and Mrs L. Miller, Mrs R. Managh and. Mrs F’. Cowdrey, Mrs L. Fergusson and Miss' B. Fergusson, Mrs D. Mapagh and Miss .7.
