MANAWATU COUNTY

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Tuesday. There ’ were present Crs. W. It. Barber (chairman), A. N. Morcom, J. Boyce, D. W. Reid, W. E. Pearce, H. J. Fagan and 11. A. Wilson, Following the consideration of a report on the Itongotea hall, submitted by the engineer (Mr H. V. Bond), it was decided to repair the building at a cost not to exceed £IOO. The Main Highways Board advised that the access road to the Ohakea aerodrome would he declared a main highway' after it had been reconstructed and sealed at the Government's- cost. —Received. The Commissioner of Transport advised that temporary traffic _ inspectors had to comply with certain conditions. —Received. The llongotea School Committee wrote requesting the retention of a street light near the school. —To he acceded to. The Sanson Patriotic Sowing Guild forwarded a request ior funds. Received, the council having no power to make a grant. A resident of' Haggitt Street, Feilding, drew attention in a letter to the condition of the street and complained of wandering.stock. Io be leferred to the Feilding Borough Council. Requests from Mrs A. E. Aston (Eoxton) and Mr L. Fletcher (Foxton) lor attention to he given wandering stock were referred to the inspector (Mr W. Berry). The Rangiotu Dairy Company wrote requesting that Pyke’s Road he improved, and the engineer was instructed to attend to the matter. - As no objections had been received, the council decided to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for permission to raise a loan of £20,000 for the resurfacing of internal roads and the reconstruction of the Kopane bridge over the Oroua River. ’ TRAMWAY REPORT. The following report from the traniway manager (Mr Drew) was received: “The items of traffic for the month were: Metal, 460 c. yds.; minerals, II tons; merchandise, 16j tons; manure, 297 tons; battens, 1 truck; general items, H tons. The earnings were £l5O 13s Sd and the running expenses £l4B 12s. In addition to the running expenses £95 16s 5d was spent on repairs and extensions to the line, and the assembling-_ of the' producer gas locomotive chassis.” FINANCIAL REPORT.

The treasurer (Mr Drew) reported that the county fund account was m credit by £295 11s and the loan account in credit hy £IBO6 4s t cl.- llie receipts since the last meeting totalled £2585 10s.—Received.
