SOCIAL EVENING.

POLICE FORCE FOREGATHERMembers of the Police Force stationed at Palmerston North, accompanied by their wives and friends, gathered last evening in the social hall at the Central Police Station, when a happy time was spent in euchre and a programme entertainment. The evening marked the conclusion of an art union to raise funds for a billiard table and fittings, and it was announced that the effort had been so successful that a surplus remains after the required items have been purchased. The thanks of the members of the Force were expressed by Inspector H. Scott to all who had aided the art union and he expressed the pleasure of members of the Force .at having so many ladies present as their guests. Inspector Scott presented the prizes to the winners of the euchre as follow:—Ladies, Airs A. B. Aleiklejohn 1, Aliss Whiting 2, Airs Atelntyre consolation; men, Air A. Ward 1, Air W. Fell 2, Air W. K. Hall consolation.
