WOMEN’S WORLD

Mrs D. Collins, of Palmerston North, is visiting Wellington. Mrs W. Fancourt, of Parnell, Auckland, is visiting her daughter, Mrs K. Button, of Pahiatua. Dr Alice M. Burn, who was born in Canterbury, and married Dr W. M. Burn, M.A., of Dunedin, recently had an honour conferred on her by the King as Sovereign Head of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, states an exchange. When war broke out Dr Burn, although close to 'the retiring age, offered her services and she was given full administrative control of a new first aid post where she has 16 stations under her care, seeing to the staffing and equipping of them and giving lectures on first aid and ambulance work. Mrs Mary Elizabeth Brown, who died yesterday in Masterton, at the' a ge of 94 years, was born in England where she married the late Mr Richard Brown. They, came to New Zealand in 1874, and settled in Masterton. The office of town clerk was held by Mr Brown almost from its inception for the following 31 years. Mrs Brown had resided in Masterton for the past 66 years and retained a vivid recollection of the pioneering days. She is survived by two daughters, Miss A. M. Brown (Masterton) and Mrs A. Honeyman (Marton), and wu sons, Messrs IT. P. V. Brown (Christchurch) and J. B. Brown (Eltham). There are six grandchildren and two great-grand-children.
