“TOO MUCH MONEY.”
KAIRANGA COUNTY FINANCE. NEW BUILDING PROPOSED. A statement presented at the meeting of the Ivairanga County Council yesterday, showing the position of various accounts at the end of the financial year oil March 31, provoked remarks that there, was “too much money” in some of the accounts. The cash at the bank at March 31 was sliown to be £13,649 19s 6d, some of which, it was reported, had since been, placed on fixed deposit, the total of which was 4210,000. At March 31 there was also £2OOO on fixed deposit at the bank. At March 31. 1939, the total balance ivas £14,8.57 5s lid. Cr. W. G. Shannon said that the council should have its own building, and he advocated that the council should spend some of its money in this way. ! Or. N. P. Nielsen said that the council could not get a better building. Cr. Shannon observed that the council was being penny wise and pound foolish. He was going to put his proposals before the ratepayers at the next election and see what they. 6aid about them. Property was advancing in value all the time in Palmerston North.
