CITY SILVER BAND.

The report of the chairman, to be presented at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North City Silver Band, states that the year has been a most difficult one, but the financial side of the band’s activities has been well maintained. “Now that we arc in the midst of war, the services of the band will be required more than ever for various patriotic purposes,” the report adds. “Captain McLeod has had a very hard year owing to poor attendances at practices and ho deserves our thanks for carrying on in such circumstances. During the last month many old members have agreed to come. back and assist the band; with their assistance and a complete reorganisation of the band I trust that there is a bright future for them. There is also a very good junior band; quite a number as time goes on will be drafted into the senior band and so altogether tho • future seems quite bright.” The report appeals for the assistance of all unattached bandsmen during tho war period and Thanks the ladies’ committee and all who have assisted tho band. The band gave 35 performances in the past year. “The finances are very sound, which shows that the executive is pursuing a very wise policy in building up a fund to enable the band to securo new instruments. I desire to express my thanks to tho secretary for the splendid way that he has presented tho accounts,” the report adds.
