(From Our Own Correspondent.; APITI, May 13. In spite of the continued heavy rain which fell all day on Thursday and Friday the Women’s Institute’s annual dance on Fnday evening proved a wonderful success. Winners of the novelty dances were : Lucky Gay Gordons, Miss D. Prince and Mr E. Kearney; Monte Carlo, Airs E. Clifton and .Mr D. Ilarland; lucky spot, Aliss AI. Prujoan and Mervyn Osborne. Institute members provided the whole of the supper. The doorkeepers were Alessrs W. Hogan and D. McNicol. and the M.C.’s, Messrs J. R. Osborne and W. Duncan. NOTES. Airs Evans, of Otaki, and Airs Davis, of Otago, sisters of Airs AV. Duncan, were week-end guests of Mr and Airs Duncan. Mrs Cooper, of Otane, is visiting Mr and Airs J. R. Stewart, Aliss D. Bridgman, of AVaiata, hns been the guest of Airs C. Al. Stanley. Aliss Lorna East is visiting her uncle and aunt, Air and Airs L. Miller. Air J. AlcKenzie enters the Tientharn Alilitary Camp with the Third Echelon on Friday next. Air mail letters have been received recently by the respective parents of Alessrs Hugh Cowan and Rcbir, Prince, now serving in Egypt. They tell of interesting visits to Cairo and" the Pyramids. Airs McAlurtrie and Aliss P. Hogan, of Table Flat, are away ou holiday. Mr and Airs A, Cowie, of Miramar, Wellington, were week-end visitors to Mr and Airs D. McNicol. A pleasant surprise party visited Air and Airs D. McNicol on Saturday evening in honour ol Aire Bofteher’s birthday. There were about 20 visitors present and musical items were enjoyed. Mr J R. Osborne (coach) and the Young Farmers’ Club North Island champion debating team, comprising Alessrs Howard and Alan Viles and A. Cowan, leave for Christchurch to-day. The debate for the Dominion championship lakes place on Wednesday evening, against the South Island champion team. Aliss Z. Ralfe, of Bulls, is the guest of Mrs J. R. Osborne.
