CHAMPIONSHIP' AAV ARDS. The seventeenth annual festival of the Manawatu Competitions concluded on Saturday with two uigalv successful demonstration conceits, the Opera House being hHed to capac ity both in the afternoon and evening. CUPS FOR SPECIAL AAV ARDS. Miss Gibbs’s cup for dancing (open .classes). —Isa McKenzie (Palmerston North), 13 points. Miss Jean facott» cup for dancing (under 13): A alene Holder (Lower Hutt). 12 points, luiss Lorna McAffer’s challenge cup for ballet in costume (13 and over) : Broadway School of Dancing. Mr It. Bailey s challenge cup for champion lady elocutionist: Miss E. Short (fi eliding). Miss Irene Stone’s cup for impromptu interpretation, operalic dance: rsu McKenzie (Palmerston North). Mr C. AV. Shirriffs’s cup tor Lieder songs: Mr AV. Bentley (Napier). Mrs D. 'Vatson’s cup tor national dancing (10 and under): Joyce Thompson (Napier). Silver medal lo: most promising tap dancer un'der 6 years: Kathleen Rhodes (AVanganuij. Air J A. Nash (president of the society) presented the trophies and con-o-ratulated the winners. He also made a special presentation to Mr and Mrs R. Bailey for their valuable work as I stage managers apd their assistance to the society during many years. Mr Martin and Air 0. W. Morgan (viceI president and past-president of the | AATdlington Competitions Society, respectively) also spoke briefly. At the close of the evening concert the Manawatu society entertained between 50 and CO people at an enjoyable supper party. Those invited included judges, teachers, helpers and members of the executive. Mr Nash thanked the helpers for their valuable work and welcomed the AA r ellington visitors, who included Mr and Mrs Martin and Miss Martin and Mr Morgan. Mr Barton Ginger (president of the AA r ellington Society) and Airs Ginger sent an expression of regret that they were unable to be present.
