WEST END CLUB. Prospects of a larger membership next season were 'reported to be B OCK J at the annual meeting of the West End Tennis Chib, which was held on Wednesday in the West End School. The retiring president (Mr >V. Sclnvabe) presided over an enthusiastic attendance. The president’s report said that the 1939-40 season would be known as one of the wettest on record and these conditions and the war had their repercussions on the club by way of reduced membership. However, although the year’s working showed a financial loss, the outlook was much brighter because of the considerable number of new members from the Government house residents. The courts were well maintained and compared more than favourably with those of other clubs. The championship and handicap competitions within the club were very keenly contested. T.he following were the winners: Men’s championship, N. Hume; women’s championship, Miss J. Morris; men’s championship doubles, E. Ronberg and .R. Smidt; women’s championship doubles, Misses R. Rehlieriko and N. Brackenridge; Penketh Cup, M. Barrett and Miss J. ■ Morris. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr H. Hands; president, Mr L. A. Reiolienbach; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Schwabe, J. Dalziell, A. S W. Just, G. Tremaine, V. D. Stubbs, C. Edwards, E. W. McEwen, E. Cate; club captain, Mr L. A. Reichenbach; vice-captain, Mr E. Ronberg; secretary, Mr N. 11. Hume; treasurer, Mr M. J. Barrett; auditor, Mr R. Hands; delegate to Manawatn Lawn Tennis Association, Mr L. Reichenbach; committee, Messrs I. Wilkinson, H. Peters, R. Hands and C. Horner.
