Sir Ernest Davis (Mayor of Auckland), who has been indisposed, is at Rotorua, where he has been undergoing treatment. Mr J. D. Galloway, of the teaching staff of the Rangiora High School, is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Galloway, of Palmerston North.

’Warrants, of appointment for the St. John Ambulance Brigade just received include that of Cadet Officer N. A. Bartlett, of the Palmerston North Cadet Division.

Rev. F. A. Crawshaw, general secretary for Australia of the Mission tp Lepers, is on a brief visit to Palmerston North, and is the guest of Mr and Mrs A. A. Crabbe.

Petty-Officer Frew, of H.M.S. Achilles, who has been spending extended leave with his father, Mr AV. J. Frew,'of Palmerston North, returned to Auckland last evening. -

Mr Hugh G. Thomson, president of the New Zealand division of the Australasian Institute of Secretaries, has left Auckland to represent New Zealand at the biennial conference of the institute in Melbourne.

Mr D. Forsyth (Port Chalmers), the only nominee, was elected president of the New Zealand Educational Institute at the final session of the annual conference of the institute in AVellington yesterday. The retiring president, Mr i>. C. Pryor (Martinborougli) becomes senior vice-president for the coming year. Mr C. G. Scolon, who lias been manager of the Courtenay Place (Wellington) branch of the Bank of New South Wales for the past 18 years, is retiring at the end. of this month; after 46 years’ service with that institution. He is'being succeeded by Mr G. D. Campbell, who has been on relieving duty in Sydney.

Mr G. G. Stewart, railway publicity manager, who will retire on Tuesday, has the distinction of being the only railwayman now on the staff who has served in two centuries, others who joined before 1900 having already retired.' Mr Stewart joined the service in 189 S as a cadet in AVestport, and served in various districts, including Hawke’s Bay, AVairarapa, and Nelson.
