HARD LABOUR SENTENCE.
Alessrs J. A. Nash and T. R. Lees,. J.P.’s, presided over a sitting of the Palmerston North Alagistrate’s Court yesterday. Henry Barrett, alias John Barrett, alias David AlacMillan, alias John Davidson, aged 43, labourer, pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a female on April 26 and to the thol't of a leg of pork valued, at 6s 6d, a shirt valued at I2s 6d, and a pair of socks valued at 2s 6d, the property of John Francis Fox, on April 27. Detective-Sergeant A. B. Aleiklejohn said a woman passing along Featherston Street at night was accosted by. accused, who threw her to tho ground. Blows were, exchanged and the Woman got the better of the struggle. Subsequently accused was identified by the woman, and lie was also identified by the owner of the stolen property. From accused’s list of 48 convictions it would' bo realised that lie had seen the inside of practically every gaol in New Zealand. Sentence of two months’ imprisonment on each charge, the terms to be cumulative, was imposed.
