(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON/ May 8. The Alayor (Air Al. E. Perreau) yesterday entertained representatives of various district local bodies at a luncheon. Among the visitors were Messrs W. E. Barber (chairman), A. K. Drew (clerk) and. H. V/ Bond (engineer), of the Alanawatu County Council; .S. B. ltecd (Health Officer.), G. A. Alonk (chairman), and J. A. Smith (engineer), of the Horowhcnua Power Board; G. Watchorn, L. K. Andrews, and S. Rosvall (secretary), Foxton Beach Improvement Committee; F. W. Vickerman, M. B. Bergin, arid members of the Foxton Harbour Board. The Alayor said his object was to got together those men in local bodies throughout the district who were concerned or interested in the welfare of Foxton Beach. lie traced the history of this now popular resort, and said that its progress had reached a stage when it was causing the Foxton Harbour Board, the most interested local body, some concern. The resort bad now grown into a township and as such its government and further development was a matter of moment. The various local, bodies of the district were all concerned in its welfare to some. extent, but what he wanted was the co-operation and assistance of individual members in the formulation of a scheme of government. “I want you all to give the matter some thought and to advance suggestions.” Air J. Linklatcr paid a tribute to the work of . Air Perreau, as did Alessrs Barber and Alonk. An informal discussion ;took place. Stoker If. ' Smith, of the 11.A1.5. At the annual meeting of the Plunket Society regret was expressed at the reading of Airs D. R. Ogilvy’s resignation. Airs Ogilvy, who had been a foundation member of the committee and who had eighteen years of service, asked lo be released from further duties. The resignation was accepted. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Dr. S. E. Crawford; president, Airs A. T. Nichols; vice-presidents, Mesdames Trueman and ■’ Christie; committee, Alesdames Thane, Crawdord, Vculc arid Alarchant; secretary-treasurer, Mrs D. R. Barron j auditor, Air W. Trueman ; advisory hoard, Dr. Crawford, Messrs Christie and Al. B. Bergin; delegates, Alesdames Crawford, 'irueman and Barron, trustees, Alesdames Trueman, Christie and Barron. Airs Trueman expressed the eommittcc’6 appreciation of the capable mariner in which the retiring president (Airs Crawford) had carried out her duties. * ...
At a meeting of the committee of the Foxton-Moutoa Football Club Air G. Anderson was elected coach for the third grade team. The official opening of the Table Tennis Club, conducted under the auspices of the Foxton High School Old Pupils’ Association, was held in the Alasonio Hall on Monday.
At the monthly social gathering of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild a very interesting talk was given by Adjutant E. Christopher, of the Salvation Army, and a vocal solo was contributed by Airs J. I l '. Riches.
The District High School Committee met on Alonday. The chairman (Air H. A. Ilannay) expressed his iiidebtedness to Air Corlett for accepting the position of secretary and referred to the excellent services ; rendered "to the J committee - and school by Mr I. W. Aludford. He was sorry that the committee would not have his assistance as secretary during its term ot office.- and ho assured Air Aludford that his work had net gone unappreciated. After, submitting various statements and giving an. explanation of the committee’s affairs, Air Mudfotd withdrew after 'thanking the chairman for his remarks. A letter was 1 received from .Aliss B. A. Hayman, tendering beY resignation. The resignation was received with regret, it being decided to forward a letter of appreciation to her. The question of in stalling better facilities for the washing of milk bottles was referred to a committee comprising .Messrs Ilannay, Neville and AlcKenzie. Mr B. Daws, acting headmaster, stated that,the staff had gone care fully into the proposal to instal a machine in the school for Visual education and was in favour of the purchase of a strip machine at a cost of approximately £lO. Alemhers were satisfied that this was the most suitable machine for the present. Air Tunnicliffe, headmaster, to whom the proposal had been referred by letter, had confirmed their 'opinion. The committee decided to purchase a strip machine and screen, forthwith. A deputation comprising Alessis "L. S. Bowater, W. 11. Boyce and R. 11. Bent was in attendance and advanced • tho suggestion that the .committeo should accept a co-opted member from the beach. This was lecommended by a householders’ meeting and carried the approval of the Wanganui Education Board. Air Bent stated the case for the deputation and it was subsequently docided to agree to. the proposal. Air Bowater was elected a§.' the co-opted member. A COrqpted member has no voting power on the committee, it was slated.
